Hidrante is pleased to present its first participation in The Armory Show, in collaboration with mimo, presenting new and recent works by Ricardo Cabret and Ernesto Rivera.

A dialogue between artists from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Ricardo Cabret and Ernesto Rivera share a profound fascination with the dimensionality of the spaces they have lived in. Using additive and subtractive physical processes, they manipulate diverse materials to create pathways that connect the past with the future and the material with the digital. Using painting, drawing, sculpture, new media, and hybrids between these media, Cabret and Rivera treat their work as witnesses to immediacy, distance, and invisible forces that shape perception and how we inhabit a contested world.

Ricardo Cabret incorporates insights from engineering and information science to shape a unique practice that seamlessly traverses painting, sculpture, and new media. Through painterly acts of addition and subtraction informed by the history of abstraction, he materializes the unseen infrastructures of contemporary society. Cabret’s paintings embody the tension between technological systems and the specter of environmental collapse, forging a new abstract vocabulary that oscillates between digital and painterly realms.
