INFO

Hidrante is pleased to present Cada Parte, a solo exhibition by Lena Galíndez.
Cada Parte is the first solo exhibition of Lena Galíndez's (b. 1990, Puerto Rico) recent work as part of Taller Lazum, a San Juan and Vieques-based art and fabrication studio dedicated to producing screen prints and sculptural objects. Galíndez's practice integrates digital fabrication, such as 3D printing and CNC routing, different printing techniques, and materials like mushroom mycelium with a conceptual practice integrating parametric design and marine research. Taking cues from the coralline reef structures and the rhythmic waves surrounding the Vieques shores, the works on view respond to the artist's interest in the complex and organic construction patterns and the mimetic possibilities algorithmic modeling offers. In Cada Parte, each part is considered integral to the whole, and how they come together is as vital as the constant process of numbering and placing each part in its place.
Lena Galíndez is a Puerto Rican artist based in Vieques island. She graduated with a degree in painting from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. Galíndez is a 2019 fellow of La Práctica, an artistic research and critic program organized by Beta-Local. In 2017, Galíndez and Rumi Humphrey co-founded Lazum, a San Juan and Vieques-based art and fabrication studio. Lazum is a 2019 NALAC Fund For The Arts Grantee for their project Pensamiento Arrecife.
